Wear the scriptbefore it disappears.

Zayru is a modern ethnic fashion house translating Indonesia's endangered Aksara Nusantara — Jawa, Sunda, Bali, Batak, Bugis, Lampung, and more — into contemporary batik cap, batik tulis, lurik, and tenun.

— The Quiet Emergency

Two crises, one wardrobe.

Indonesia's indigenous scripts are dying. Fast fashion is drowning the world in sameness. Zayru exists at the intersection of both — a refusal, in cotton and dye.

The vanishing of Aksara Nusantara

Indonesia is home to more than a dozen indigenous writing systems — Jawa, Sunda, Bali, Batak, Bugis, Lampung, Rejang, Kawi, and beyond. Most are flagged by UNESCO as endangered or critically endangered. A 2022 study by the Indonesian Ministry of Education found that fewer than 1 in 10 native speakers can read their ancestral script. We translate them into motif so they walk with you, every day.

The cost of fast fashion

The world produces over 100 billion garments a year. 92 million tonnes become textile waste. The average garment is worn fewer than 10 times. Zayru chooses the opposite road: small batches, slow craft, garments designed to be inherited — not discarded.

Heritage you can wear.Identity you can carry.

Each Zayru piece is shaped by patience: stamped with hand-carved caps, finished with selective tulis, and dyed with intention. We make ethnic wear that feels at home in 2026 — and roots you in something far older.

  • Batik Cap, Touched by Tulis

Most Zayru pieces are made with batik cap — hand-carved copper stamps pressed by artisan hands, then accented with selective batik tulis (hand-drawn detailing). The result is repeatable craft without losing the soul of the hand.

  • Slow by Design

Our Liris Loka series is dyed entirely with natural pigments — indigo, soga, secang, mahogany. Off-cuts return to the atelier as upcycled accessories and patchwork leather bags. Nothing is wasted because nothing was rushed.

  • Crafted with Community

We work hand-in-hand with women artisans and local batik makers across Java, ensuring fair wages, safer studios, and the quiet dignity of work that lasts beyond a season.

  • Wearing Zayru feels different — in the best way. I love how the design respects tradition but still looks fresh and easy to wear. People often ask me where I got it!

  • The Liris Loka outer is the only piece I've worn every week for half a year. It feels older than me — in a good way — and softer the more I wear it.

  • It's rare to find batik that takes Aksara Nusantara seriously without turning it into costume. Zayru does. I wear my Bazaka dress when I want to walk into a room with my whole lineage.

— Frequently asked

Questions, answered honestly.

Everything we get asked about craft, sizing, care, shipping, returns, and custom orders. Can't find what you're looking for? Email hello@zayru.com.

  • How can I distinguish authentic batik cloth from machine-printed batik textiles?

The defining factor is the production technique and color penetration. Authentic handmade batik is crafted through a meticulous hot-wax resistance process (either hand-drawn or stamped). This traditional method allows dyes to fully saturate the fabric, making the patterns bleed through vividly onto the reverse side. Machine-printed batik, however, only applies color to the front surface, leaving the back looking completely solid white or significantly faded.

  • Why is investing in premium hand-stamped or hand-drawn batik shirts worthwhile?

Handmade batik clothing is a piece of living wearable art rather than just standard business attire. Crafting the copper stamp molds and applying the wax lines requires years of generational skill from local artisans. Beyond its striking, non-mass-produced aesthetics, authentic batik holds long-term color durability and immense cultural value, making it a timeless investment piece for your wardrobe.

  • Are the premium cotton or silk fabrics used for luxury batik hot to wear?

Not at all. High-end batik garments, such as Zayru's ready-to-wear collections, utilize top-tier woven cotton and premium pure silk. These natural textile fibers are highly breathable, soft against the skin, and excellent at moisture-wicking, ensuring you stay exceptionally cool and comfortable all day long, even in humid tropical climates.

  • What is the correct way to wash luxury batik shirts so they do not fade over time?

We strongly advise hand-washing your batik garments in cold water. Use a specialized natural dye cleanser like Lerak fruit soap or a mild baby shampoo instead of harsh commercial detergents. When drying, simply hang the garment to air-dry in a shaded, well-ventilated spot away from direct sunlight to preserve the organic integrity of the artisanal dyes.

  • Why does a new batik shirt sometimes release slight coloration during its initial wash?

This process is known as fiber discharge, where excess natural dye residues and microscopic wax elements clear from the fabric pores. It is a completely standard occurrence for authentic, freshly dyed artisan textiles and does not damage the fabric. Simply separate your batik pieces from other laundry for the first 1 to 3 washes.

  • What makes Zayru's luxury batik clothing line unique compared to other brands?

Zayru merges contemporary fashion with heritage preservation by embedding the profound elegance of 'Aksara Nusantara' (ancient local scripts) into every tailored shirt design. Our collections are more than just geometric clothing patterns; they carry ancient philosophies, historical narratives, and traditional blessings tailored beautifully for modern world citizens.

  • Are Zayru's batik products mass-produced or made using hand-stamping methods?

We strictly reject mass-production machine printing to uphold the true craftsmanship of Indonesian heritage. Every single Zayru piece is crafted in limited small batches using authentic Batik Cap (hand-stamping). Master artisans apply hot wax using hand-carved copper blocks, capturing a precise yet characterful texture unique to traditional heritage textiles.

  • What happens if the men's batik shirt I purchase online does not fit perfectly?

Your complete satisfaction is our highest priority. We offer a seamless size exchange service within 7 calendar days of receiving your package. Please make sure that the garment is returned in its brand-new condition, unwashed, with all original hangtags safely attached. Simply reach out to our dedicated support team via WhatsApp to initiate your request.

  • Does Zayru accommodate custom textile production or corporate B2B uniform orders?

Yes, we provide tailored manufacturing services for corporate B2B attire, custom uniform designs, exclusive wedding parties, and high-end executive gifts. We can develop customized local script motifs that resonate with your organization’s core values. For commercial inquiries, feel free to contact us directly at hello@zayru.com.

  • How long does shipping take and do you support worldwide international shipping?

Yes, we ship globally to bring authentic Indonesian heritage to doorsteps worldwide, alongside comprehensive domestic delivery. Domestic shipping inside Indonesia usually spans 2-5 business days, while global transits vary depending on the destination country. All final logistics fees are accurately and transparently calculated on the checkout page once you fill out your delivery address.
